Qatari, British officials discuss Gaza ceasefire

DOHA, Sept. 2 (Xinhua) — Qatari and British officials met here on Monday to discuss efforts to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
On social media platform X, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari posted a photo of him meeting with British Ambassador to Qatar Neerav Patel.
He said in the feed that Qatar appreciates Britain’s “continued role with regional and international partners to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and allow access to humanitarian aid.”
Responded on X, Patel said that it was good to discuss with the Qatari official Britain’s support to “Qatar’s essential mediation” concerning the ceasefire.
“An immediate ceasefire in Gaza is vital and urgent — to stop the suffering, address the humanitarian emergency, get out hostages, and build stability,” he said.
Earlier on Monday, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy informed lawmakers in parliament that around 30 licenses, out of a total of approximately 350, were being suspended.
Lammy stated that assessments had indicated a clear risk that British arms could be used to commit or facilitate serious violations of international humanitarian law.
The Foreign Office said that a two-month review had raised concerns about Israel’s conduct in the conflict in Gaza. ■
